SAF Annual Meeting April 6
Ongoing are the preparations for the SAF Annual Meeting which will be held at Hótel Loftleiðir April 6. The main theme of the meeting is "What sells Iceland?" and a speech will be given by Mr Hermann Harladsson director of OMD Nordic on the subject. The Annual Meeting will be followed by a Trade Fair on April 7 at Hótel Loftleiðir where buyers and sellers on the Icelandic market get a chance to meet up for discussions and exchange information. SAF memebers will have the opportunity to present their products and services to all the main travel agents in Iceland. Mr Gunnar Eklund regional manager for Icelandair in the USA will give a speech on "Destination Iceland - from America" at lunch time on how to market Iceland in the States. Food 2006 - Nordic Competiion

Food 2006 - Nordic Competition. A competiion for Nordic students in cooking and serving will be held in Fífan March 31 and April 1. SAF and MATVÍS are responsilbe for the organiseation of the competition in cooperation with the Hotel-and Education Association. The main object of the competition is to organise and encourage students to improve their standards and to encourage an exchange between the relevant countries.

SAF Conference on Tourism and Power Utilisation

SAF Conference on Tourism and Power Utilisation at Grand Hotel Reykjavík March 23. The conference highlighted tourism in power utilisation of hydro-geothermal energies. Three ministers Mr Sturla Böðvarsson Minister of Tourism and Communications, Valgerður Sverrisdóttir Minister of Industries and Sigríður Anna  Þórðardóttir Minister of The Environment  attended the conference and gave speeches on the subject among several other speakers. Among subjects discussed were the masterplans on utilisation of geothermal energies as well as new ideas on a National Park in Fjallabak were presented. Panel discussions followed and were attended by Sigríður Anna Þórðardóttir and Valgerður Sverrisdóttir.

Hótel Glymur in Hvalfjörður has reopened after the hotel has undergone extensive renovation. The hotel now offers excellent conference facilities and all rooms on the second floor of the hotel have now been converted into sweets.
